Taliban minister Khalil Haqqani killed in Kabul bombing
An explosion in the center of Kabul killed Khalil Haqqani, the acting minister for refugees in the Afghan government that was established after the Taliban movement (recognized as terrorist in several countries) came to power. This was reported by the Associated Press and Reuters.
The explosion in the building of the Ministry of Refugees was carried out by a suicide bomber. Six other people were killed along with Haqqani. A Taliban spokesman said that the official was killed by militants of the Islamic State group. The group itself has not yet commented on the incident.
Khalil Haqqani is the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the acting interior minister. Khalil and Sirajuddin Haqqani represent the so-called Haqqani Network, the most radical faction of the Taliban. After the Taliban came to power, the Haqqani Network took responsibility for protecting Kabul.
