Trial of teenagers plotting terrorist attack begins in Germany
The trial of three teenagers accused of planning an Islamist terrorist attack has begun in Düsseldorf. On Friday, December 13, two girls, aged 16 and 17, from Düsseldorf and Iserlohn, and a 17-year-old boy from Lipstadt appeared before the North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Court. They are accused of preparing a serious crime that threatens the security of the state.
According to the investigation, the three teenagers, together with a 16-year-old boy from Baden-Württemberg Ostfelden, whose case is being heard by the regional court in Stuttgart, discussed plans for attacks on the Telegram and Discord messengers. Initially, they were talking about attacks on court buildings, police stations and train stations; ultimately, the teenagers decided to commit terrorist attacks in churches.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the teenagers were planning attacks in the name of Islamic State using knives and Molotov cocktails, and were also contemplating acquiring firearms.
