Resident of Uzbek city of Andijan sentenced to 10 years in prison for sponsoring terrorists in Syria

In the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, a court sentenced a man to 10 and a half years in prison for sponsoring militants in Syria, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

According to UzA agency, the convict, who worked as a cook in the kitchen, became interested in religious extremist ideology. He read and watched various materials dedicated to jihad and looked into the possibility of joining terrorists in Syria.

In May 2023, he met three members of Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad and Guroba Katibasi terrorist groups. All of them were from Andijan. Two months after meeting, the man started sending money received from relatives to Syria for them. In total, from August to December, he sent his fellow countrymen a little more than 10 thousand dollars in cryptocurrency.

In addition, the convict helped the wife of one of the members of the Syrian terrorist group move to her husband. He escorted the woman through the Dustlik checkpoint to the Osh airport in Kyrgyzstan to send her to Syria via Turkey.

It must be reminded that 30-year-old Khudoyor Nuriddinov was recently declared wanted in Uzbekistan. He, a native of the Rishtan district of the Fergana region, went to fight in Syria. He is also actively working to expand the ranks of militants by recruiting his compatriots.
