The criminal proceedings on cases investigated by the National Security Committee against two citizens of Kazakhstan, who were members of terrorist organizations in Syria in 2020-2022, have been completed, the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

As a result of operations carried out jointly with foreign partners, the citizens were found abroad, brought home and arrested.

One of them, a resident of the Turkestan region, was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist group. The second, a resident of Atyrau, was convicted of committing a similar crime, as well as of undergoing terrorist training abroad.

Both defendants were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment, and the sentences have entered into force, the report says.
