Fierce fighting between Kurdish formations and pro-Turkish forces continues near the Syrian city of Manbij in Aleppo governorate. According to information circulated on social networks, Kurdish units that are part of the "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) have launched a counteroffensive against the "Syrian National Army" (SNA) supported by Turkey.

It is reported that Kurdish fighters succeeded in establishing control over the settlement of Al-Kashl and started fighting for the village of Qasad. These efforts are aimed at returning territories previously lost as a result of the offensive of pro-Turkish forces. Several days ago the SNA announced that it had taken control of the cities of Manbij and Deir ez-Zor, which was a serious blow to the positions of Kurdish troops in the region.

The city Manbij, located northeast of Aleppo, is of strategic importance, as it is an important transport hub and economic center. The city was liberated by Kurdish forces from the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) in 2016 and was under the control of the SDF since then. However, in December 2024, after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime, pro-Turkish rebels launched an active offensive against Kurdish positions, which led to the capture of Manbij.

Turkey views Kurdish formations as terrorist organizations and seeks to prevent the creation of a Kurdish autonomy near its southern borders. Ankara has repeatedly stated its intention to create a buffer zone in northern Syria to ensure its national security. In this regard, supporting pro-Turkish forces in the region is part of Turkey's strategy to contain Kurdish influence.

The situation in the Manbij area remains tense. Kurdish troops declare their readiness to continue resistance and take measures to return the lost territories. In turn, pro-Turkish forces seek to strengthen their positions and expand their zone of control.
