Wahhabism banned in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Information and Culture of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has published a list of banned books. It includes the famous 18th century work Kitab al-Tawhid (The Book of Monotheism) by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, the founder of the radical Wahhabi movement in Islam. This was reported by 24.kg news agency with reference to the Middle East Spectator Telegram channel.
This initiative, as stated, may indicate Afghanistan's desire to distance itself from the ideology of radical Islamism.
Kitab al-Tawhid (The Book of Monotheism), written by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, the spiritual founder of radical Wahhabism, is the basis of the ideology of most terrorist groups that emerged in the 20th and 21st centuries, such as ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and Al-Qaeda, the Telegram channel writes.
The article mentions that many experts point out that Wahhabism is used by the West as a tool to divide Muslims. It also points out that this ideology, financed by Saudi petrodollars, has penetrated Islamic religious schools (madrassas) in countries such as Pakistan, Egypt and Afghanistan, leading to increased radicalization and development of modern "Islamic" terrorism.
It is possible that the measure taken by the authorities of today's Afghanistan will be perceived as an important indicator of the country's movement towards traditional Islam and opposition to radicalism.
