The police department's counter-extremism unit jointly with the KNB detained 11 members of an established group of religious radicals.

They distributed audio and video materials on social media, including lectures by foreign radical preachers, promoting the superiority of their co-religionists and the inferiority of followers of other faiths, insulting their religious feelings.

Earlier, some of the materials distributed by this group were recognized by the courts of Kazakhstan as extremist and banned, as they were clearly inciting religious hatred.

Four suspects from among the leaders and active members of the group were placed in a temporary detention facility, the rest confessed as witnesses to the crime.

A pre-trial investigation is underway with regards to deliberate incitement of religious hatred committed by a group of people.
