Ukhta resident arrested for calls for terrorism and extremism on the Internet

The Syktyvkar City Court has decided to took in custody a resident of Ukhta accused of publicly calling for terrorist and extremist activities. This was reported by the news program "Day".

According to the investigation, the person, using his account in a popular messenger, was posting materials in the public domain, calling for terrorist attacks, from September 2023 to March 2024. In particular, he called for an attempt on the life of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. In addition, his messages contained calls for extremist actions against a group of people identified on religious grounds.

The criminal case is being investigated by the Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Komi Republic. The accused faces up to seven years in prison under Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public Calls for Terrorist Activity) and up to five years under Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public Calls for Extremist Activity).
