Prerequisites for the emergence of new terrorist groups remain in Dagestan

Despite the positive results of the activities of local and republican authorities, the public, security forces and the clergy aimed at prevention of terrorism, prerequisites for the emergence of new terrorist groups remain in Dagestan.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov stated this during the Interdepartmental Meeting chaired by the Deputy Director of the FSB of Russia, Head of the NAC apparatus Igor Sirotkin, on January 28.

As reported by the press service of the Prime Minister, this meeting was dedicated to overviewing the outcomes of the activities of the republican authorities and local governments in the field of terrorism prevention in the Republic of Dagestan over the past year and defining the priorities for the current year.

In his address, Sirotkin noted that the significant work carried out in the republic takes place in the context of increasing terrorist challenges and threats.

These threats pose serious challenges for the authorities, making it necessary to improve the quality of organization at the regional and municipal levels of general preventive, targeted and individual measures. These events should make the citizens, especially young people, intolerant to the the ideology of terrorism and the ideas of neo-Nazism.

In addition, the events should instill a "critical attitude towards the destructive information impact of foreign terrorist organizations and the collective West."

After the address of the Deputy Director of the FSB, the "sectoral" Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Ramazan Dzhafarov and the Minister of National Policy and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan Enrik Muslimov reported on the issues raised.

The official release reports that Dzhafarov and Muslimov spoke about "measures to coordinate the activities of terrorism prevention entities, the implementation of measures to counter terrorism ideology at the municipal level and the professional training of employees in the area under consideration."

When the floor was given to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulmuslimov, he first expressed concern: "Despite the positive results that have been achieved, the preconditions for the development of new terrorist groups from among supporters of radical religious views still exist in our republic."

And then, he literally called for an even stronger "tightening of the screws" in the republic, as, according to him: "In this regard (due to the prerequisites) there is a need to take additional efforts aimed at improving the effectiveness of efforts to counter terrorism."

During the event, the parties exchanged opinions, and the working group of the NAC office for the Republic of Dagestan gave objective assessments of the current situation on the ground.

Based on the results of the meeting, specific measures were developed aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the activities of executive bodies, local governments and anti-terrorist commissions in the Republic of Dagestan and municipalities in countering the ideology of terrorism in modern conditions.
