Iran and Afghanistan coordinate plans to secure borders and combat terrorism
Iranian Foreign Minister and Afghan Acting Defense Minister coordinated efforts to maintain security along the shared border and combat terrorism.
According to Tasnim, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Afghan Acting Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid discussed relations between the two countries, especially in the defense and security sectors, during a meeting in Kabul.
Highlighting the related nature of the two countries’ security, Araghchi pointed to common issues and challenges, including drug trafficking, terrorism, and unauthorized border crossings. The minister stressed that addressing these issues requires close cooperation and coordination between the two countries.
The Taliban official, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran for its positive approach, including Iran’s warm hospitality towards millions of Afghan refugees over the past 46 years. He also pointed to the efforts of the Afghan interim government to combat terrorism, calling for greater information sharing and coordination to prevent and address these grave threats.
