Alleged ISIS accomplice detained in Berlin
An alleged accomplice of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group has been detained in Berlin. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, an arrest warrant is expected to be issued soon.
The Russian citizen is accused of belonging to a criminal organization, supporting a terrorist group abroad, and violating the law on foreign economic activity.
According to the investigation, no later than August 2022 the Russian citizen joined a criminal group that raised money for IS in Germany and other European countries. The funds were raised mainly through social media, and then were partially transferred to IS members abroad through intermediaries.
The money was sent mainly to female IS members in Kurdish prisons, as well as to militants of the jihadist group.
According to the investigation, the accused person organized fundraising in the Berlin area and temporarily managed one of the general donation funds. In this way, he participated in financial transactions in favor of IS in the amount of more than 60,000 euros.
