US President Donald Trump plans to wind down the American military presence in Syria, the Israeli official Kan TV channel reported. The journalists, citing "senior officials in the White House", reported that the Pentagon notified Israeli allies that President Trump intends to withdraw thousands of American troops fr om Syria.

The source added that "the withdrawal of American troops from Syria will cause serious concern in Tel Aviv".

The day before, Trump invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to meet with him at the White House. The meeting is scheduled for February 4, the Prime Minister's office reported.

Israeli media believe that during the visit, Netanyahu will ask Trump to extend the stay of the American military contingent in Syria. The presence of US forces in the Middle East guarantees the security of Israel's northern borders and stability on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, wh ere ISIS fighters are still active.
