National Intelligence Director nominee calls Iraq invasion America's greatest failure
Tulsi Gabbard who was nominated to the position of the US Director of National Intelligence has accused US intelligence agencies of politicization and called the decision to invade Iraq in 2003, made with their support, the biggest US failure.
Gabbard said that US intelligence agencies were used by President Trump's opponents to discredit him, TASS reports. She noted that Trump was falsely portrayed as a puppet of the Russian leadership in order to block his decisions as president.
Gabbard emphasized that the politicization of intelligence agencies ultimately led to inappropriate decisions, costly failures, and the undermining of US national security. She cited the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 as the most obvious example. According to her, this happened based on "completely fabricated or completely incorrect intelligence."
“This disastrous decision has resulted in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, millions of people in the Middle East, mass displacement, destabilization that has undermined the security and stability of our European allies, the emergence of ISIS, the rise of al-Qaida and other Islamist and jihadist groups,” Gabbard said. She also noted that trust in the intelligence community in the United States was at an all-time low.
