US announces elimination of terrorist leader in Syria
The United States carried out an airstrike in Syria, eliminating Muhammad Salah al-Zabir, a leader of the Islamist group Hurras al-Din, who has ties to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Thursday.
According to the military, the precision airstrike was carried out on Thursday in northwestern Syria. The statement emphasized that the operation was part of the ongoing efforts of the United States and its allies to disrupt the activities of terrorist groups planning attacks against civilian and military targets in the region and beyond.
"CENTCOM will continue to hunt, eliminate, or capture terrorists to protect the United States and our allies from groups plotting attacks on American and allied personnel," said General Michael Eric Kurilla, the head of the US Central Command.
Hurras al-Din is an offshoot of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda and operates in Syria, promoting radical Islamist ideology. The group is actively involved in military operations and, according to the US, poses a threat to stability and security in the region.
