A Palestinian militant penetrated an Israeli military post near the town of Tayasir in the northern West Bank. The attacker exchanged fire with soldiers for several minutes before being killed. Eight people were wounded in the attack, with two of whom in critical condition, the Times of Israel reports.

It was later established that the attacker was part of a group of militants planning a series of attacks. Following the shootout at the checkpoint, an Israeli Air Force drone struck a nearby town where the militants were allegedly hiding.

Earlier, the Israeli armed forces launched a large-scale military and police operation in the West Bank near the towns of Jericho, Tulkarm, Qalqilya and Tubas.
