Islamic State adherents tried to escape from prison in Tajikistan

Security forces suppressed a riot by supporters of the Islamic State in colony No. 3/2 in the Tajik city of Vahdat, the Directorate 4 Telegram channel reports.

According to the Main Directorate of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan, a group of nine prisoners attacked the guards with improvised knives and tried to escape. Three guards were seriously injured.

Special forces that arrived at the scene demanded that the jihadists lay down their arms and surrender. The rioters did not comply. The security forces were forced to use weapons. According to official statement, three prisoners were eliminated, and the rest were detained.

It is noteworthy that the jihadists who started the riot included Jamoliddin Hasanov, convicted of extremism. In 2019, he received an additional term for participating in riots in the same colony No. 3/2. At that time, one of the instigators was Bekhruz Khalimov, the son of OMON commander Gulmurod Khalimov, who joined ISIS.
