The current situation in Syria

Turkiye may build two military bases in Syria, deploying F-16 fighter jets, the pro-government newspaper Turkiye reported, citing unnamed Arab sources.

Israel is building bases in the Golan Heights buffer zone in Syria, the Washington Post reported earlier, citing satellite images and an expert.

"According to Arab sources, Turkiye and Syria will sign a joint defense agreement. According to the agreement, which is expected to be signed soon, Ankara will provide assistance to Syria in the event that Damascus faces a sudden threat. The agreement also stipulates that the Turkish armed forces will train the Syrian army and its pilots, and that Turkiye will establish two military bases in Syria. Turkiye will deploy 50 F-16 fighter jets at these bases until the construction of the Syrian Air Force is completed, in order to prevent any attacks that could be directed against the country's sovereignty," the publication writes.

The official authorities have not yet commented on these reports.

The publication also reported that the "new administration" of Syria has requested UAVs, radars and electronic warfare systems from Turkey to control the border with Israel.

"The government in Damascus, whose main request to Ankara is to provide unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also wants radars, electronic warfare systems and integrated security systems to be deployed on the border in addition to Turkish UAVs, especially in the context of control over the Israeli border corridor," the publication reported.

The newspaper also writes, citing a representative of the "Ministry of Defense" of Syria, that the first delivery of UAVs could take place very soon.
