Nigerian Army eliminates 27 terrorists

The Nigerian army has eliminated 27 terrorists during operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist organizations, Anadolu reports, citing the army press service.

The operations were carried out in Borno state from January 30 to February 7. During the operations, 27 terrorists were killed and 85 were detained. In addition, 44 civilians, whom the terrorists had taken hostage for ransom, were freed and a significant amount of ammunition was seized.

Boko Haram has been active in Nigeria since the early 2000s, and since 2009, its mass terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of dozens of thousands of people. Since 2015, the organization has expanded its attacks to neighboring countries - Cameroon, Chad and Niger. In the Lake Chad Basin region, their attacks have killed at least 2,000 people.

Terrorist attacks and armed conflicts have forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
