MILITANTS ATTACK POLICE STATION IN PAKISTAN

More than 50 armed militants attacked a police station in the Pakistani city of Wana (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) at night, police officer Rehman Wazir said on December 21 in a comment to The Dawn news agency.

According to him, 20 policemen who were at the posts offered resistance, but were taken hostage. The attackers opened the arsenal, seizing weapons and ammunition, after which they retreated from the scene with a fight. According to the police, eight AK-47 assault rifles were missing from the arsenal.

One of the police officers was injured in the attack, and one of the alleged attackers was later killed in a shootout with border guards, who were able to regain control over the police station after the militants withdrew.
