Astana resident found guilty of promoting terrorism and attempting to participate in FTO activities
A 44-year-old Asemgul Zhumakayeva, an active supporter of radical religious ideology, has been convicted in Astana,. Last summer, she joined a chat where representatives of terrorist organizations banned in Kazakhstan were recruiting people to go to Syria and create a cell in Astana.
The channel's administrator is a citizen of Tajikistan, Farukh Shami, a militant of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, who is wanted by several countries for terrorism. Asemgul Zhumakayeva was active in this chat and expressed support for another terrorist, Said Buryatsky.
In this chat she met another citizen of Kazakhstan and persuaded her to move to Syria by getting to Turkey or Saudi Arabia under the guise of tourists, and then with the help of her "sisters" to move closer to the "brothers". Asemgul did not conceal her desire to marry a militant and was going to take her daughters with her.
She was divorced and banned her husband from communicating with the children. For some reason, the woman believed that in Syria her life would finally become good. The woman did not communicate with other relatives, not even with her own mother.
Eventually, Asemgul Zhumakaeva arrived in Almaty with the children and bought tickets to Istanbul, but was suddenly removed from the flight. It turned out that her husband found out about his wife's plans and filed a statement with the police that his children were going to be taken out of the country without permission.
The investigation ordered expert examinations of Asemgul's comments in the chat and her conversations with the woman whom she persuaded to leave the country.
As a result, the court found Zhumakaeva guilty of promoting terrorism and attempted participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, sentencing her to seven years in prison.
