Police in the Czech Republic have detained a 20-year-old Czech citizen who converted to Islam and was recruited by the Islamic State. He intended to fly to ISIS using a route prepared for him, the Novinky publication reported, citing information received from the state prosecutor's office.

According to the investigation, the young man met ISIS recruiters via the Telegram messenger, and then the recruiters explained to him with how to safely get to the territory under ISIS control.

The young man faced up to 12 years in prison, but due to his voluntary confession and cooperation with the police, the Prosecutor General's Office offered a much more lenient sentence, according to which he will not serve more than three years.

According to prosecutor M. Bílý, the Prosecutor General's Office is considering another similar charge concerning an attempt by a Czech citizen to join ISIS terrorists via Telegram. However, Bílý did not provide details of this case, since the investigation is ongoing.
