According to intelligence agencies, the cells planned to set fire to forests, assassinate officials, and carry out terrorist attacks near government agencies and facilities of the Moroccan Armed Forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The militants received funding and logistical assistance from the leadership of the so-called "Wilayat Sahel."
