Two Kazakhstanis convicted of promoting terrorism on social media
In the Turkestan region (southern Kazakhstan), two citizens were convicted of promoting terrorist narratives and participating in the activities of an extremist organization. This was reported by the local prosecutor's office.
As reported by the department, in October last year, one of them opened the Telegram channel "For Islam". This is where he distributed videos of foreign terrorist organizations "Muslim Brotherhood" and "Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan".
In December last year, another convicted person distributed videos of the religious extremist organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir" on social media and messengers.
"During the trial, state prosecutors fully proved the guilt of the defendants and asked to impose a sentence in the form of imprisonment. The convicted persons, who promoted terrorism, were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 7 years to be served in a maximum security penal institution," the prosecutor's office said.
