Clashes between security forces and Assad supporters take place in Syria

Supporters of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Jableh area of Latakia province have arranged attacks on security personnel of the new government, RIA Novosti reports.

"The armed forces will provide assistance to the security forces that took the brunt of attacks by armed groups of Assad supporters, organized simultaneously in different places," the news media says.

According to media reports, the army has sent additional forces to the Jableh area to restore order and counter the attackers. As a result of the attacks, according to the latest data, 16 security officers were killed. A curfew has been declared in Latakia. Security forces prevented an attack on the building of the criminal police department.

The former head of the Syrian air intelligence service Ibrahim Huweija was killed during the military operation. He was accused of hundreds of murders during the presidency of Hafez al-Assad.

Due to the escalation of the tensions, local authorities also announced the introduction of a curfew in neighboring Tartus and in the city of Homs.

Clashes between armed self-defense units and the security forces of the new Syrian government also took place in the south of the country, in the province of Daraa. At the same time, in the neighboring province of Suwayda, where the Druze population predominantly lives, activists took to the streets calling for a change of power in the country.
