Turkish police arrest four suspects in IS financing

Turkish police arrested four suspects for providing funds to the Islamic State (IS) in a major operation on Thursday, Xinhua reported, citing a statement from the government.

The operation, which covered four provinces, was part of an investigation by the General Prosecutor's Office in Izmir, western Turkey.

The office said arrest warrants had been issued for five people after suspicious money transfers labeled as "charitable donations" were identified among their bank transactions.

The counter-terrorism units carried out raids simultaneously at different locations in the provinces of Izmir, Antalya, Sivas and Sirnak, following orders.

Four suspects were taken into custody during the operation, while the search for the remaining suspect is ongoing.

Turkey, which designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, has faced numerous attacks by the group in recent years. In response, Turkish security forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations at home and abroad, targeting suspected members and supporters of the group.
