Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has issued a decree on the establishment of the National Security Council, SANA reports.

"The National Security Council is being created under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic. Its purpose is to coordinate and manage security and address political issues," the agency quotes the decree.

The council will include the ministers of foreign affairs, defense, interior, and the head of the national intelligence agency. In addition, the council will have two advisory members and a technical expert appointed by Al-Sharaa.

"Decisions related to national security and the challenges facing the state will be made in consultation with its (National Security Council - IF) members," the decree says.

Meetings will be held periodically or by decision of the president.
