ISIS returns: Iraq calls for increased fight against terrorists
The number of militants of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) is growing, and a regional alliance is needed to combat them, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said at a press conference broadcasted by Al Hadath TV channel. He also proposed increasing the exchange of intelligence to help fight the militants.
“We see that the number of IS fighters in the region is growing, and the volume of weapons at the terrorists' disposal and the area they control are increasing. In this regard, we need an organization that would combat the terrorist threat at the regional level and would enlist the support of the world community,” Hussein said.
According to him, countries neighboring Syria should exchange intelligence on IS activities and constantly maintain contact at various levels. Hussein emphasized that Baghdad is closely monitoring the situation in Syria, and the situation in Iraq depends on the situation in Syria.
