Agreement signed between Kurdish forces and the new authorities of Syria

The Kurdish "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) have signed an agreement to join the security forces reporting to the new Syrian "authorities." This was reported by the office of the "president" of Syria for the transitional period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, on its Telegram channel.

According to the statement, the relevant document was signed during a meeting between al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazlum Abdi. According to the agreement that was published by the office of the "Syrian leader," "all civilian and military facilities located in northeastern Syria will be integrated into the system of state administration" headed by the new authorities in Damascus. In particular, this concerns all checkpoints in the Kurdish territories, as well as the airport located there, gas and oil fields.

In addition, the agreement between Damascus and the SDF provides for a “ceasefire throughout Syria” and guarantees the Kurdish population “all rights provided for by the constitution, including the right to citizenship.” The Kurds, for their part, undertake to support the new Syrian authorities in “their fight against Assad’s supporters and other factors that threaten the security and unity of Syria.” The agreement must be implemented “by the end of this year.”
