More than 30 people have received prison sentences for plotting a terrorist attack in Tajikistan, Sputnik Tajikistan reported.

They intended to carry out a mass poisoning on Nowruz celebration in 2024, the Tajik General Prosecutor's Office reported at a news conference.

“More than 30 people who were involved in the attempted terrorist attack in Vakhdat have been detained and a criminal case has been opened against them,’ Jumanazar Saidahmadzoda, head of the Prosecutor General's Office's Department for Countering Terrorism and Extremism, said.

The case went to court, and they were convicted by the court, he said.

All the convicted will spend 8 to 20 years in prison, Saidahmadzoda indicated.

In addition, 10 more suspects are still on the wanted list.
