Islamic State militants have defeated another military unit of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Telegram channel Directorate 4 reports.

The jihadists attacked the location of government troops in the town of Goneri in Yobe state. Eleven servicemen were killed in the firefight, with some of them beheaded by the militants. The attackers seized weapons and burned equipment, including Vickers Mk.3 tanks, RM-70 MLRS, FV103 Spartan armoured personnel carrier, ST1 armoured vehicle, and ZSU-23-4 Shilka.

The terrorists had earlier carried out a series of attacks on the Nigerian Armed Forces and allied forces in the northern part of the country.
