UZBEK CITIZEN SENT TO PRISON FOR CALLING TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER

A 23-year-old Uzbek man who fell under the influence of ideologues of terrorist organizations is sentenced to three years and six months in prison for calling for a change in the constitutional order, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

 

In 2019, this resident of the Jizzakh region went to work in Russia where he fell under the influence of the banned terrorist organizations Katibat al-Tawhid wa-l-Jihad and the Islamic Movement of Turkestan. Through social media, he exchanged information with representatives of these organizations about the situation in Syria, jihad and the cost of a trip to this country.

 

He also created a channel in the Telegram messenger and distributed materials calling for a change in the constitutional order in Uzbekistan and extremism. After returning from Russia, he began to promote Sharia law among his acquaintances and raise funds to support militants in Syria. He also continued to distribute extremist materials through social media.

 

The staff members of the State Security Service thwarted the illegal activities of this person. 

 

The Pakhtakor District Court found the man guilty under Articles 159 (Encroachment on the Constitutional Order of Uzbekistan) and 244-1 (Production, Storage, Distribution or Demonstration of Materials Containing a Threat to Public Safety and Public Order) of the Criminal Code.
