In Shymkent a sentence was handed to a man who was engaged in propaganda of terrorism and recruitment of people through a popular messenger, Zakon.kz reports with reference to the city prosecutor's office.

‘The court sentence sentenced citizen indicated as ‘S’ to 8 years in prison under Part 2 of Article 256 (‘Propaganda of terrorism, as well as distribution of materials of the specified content with the use of Internet resources’) and Part 1 of Article 259 (‘Recruitment or training or arming of persons for the organisation of terrorist or extremist activity’) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan’, - the prosecutor’s office reported.

According to the supervisory body, citizen ‘C’  sent materials calling to violence and explanaining the ideology of the foreign terrorist organisation ‘Muslim Brotherhood’, promoting the idea of ‘armed jihad’, through messenger WhatsApp to his acquaintance female citizen ‘T’ in September 2024 in Shymkent. He also tried to recruit her to join terrorist groups in Syria.
