Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has defeated an Islamic State (IS)-affiliated terrorist group in the western province of Kurdistan, eliminating all its members, Xinhua reported citing the IRIB news agency.

The group's members, who were foreign nationals trained by the IS, were attempting to carry out terrorist attacks in the province during the Nowruz holiday associated with the start of the Persian calendar's new year, the IRGC's Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada ground forces base said in a statement quoted by IRIB.

Members of the group have been identified by provincial security and intelligence agencies, the statement said.

The report did not specify the exact number of ‘terrorists’ or the date of the operation.
