An IS supporter who was planning a terrorist attack detained in Pyatigorsk
The Federal Security Service has prevented a terrorist attack in Pyatigorsk and detained a native of Central Asia, a member of a foreign terrorist organisation, who was plotting it. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Public Relations Centre (PRC) of the Russian Federal Security Service.
‘The terrorist intended to carry out a terrorist attack in one of the leisure centres,’ the Public Relations Centre said. - After the attack he was going to leave for Syria to take part in hostilities. As a result of investigation, the person was detected and detained in time. Bottles with incendiary mixture were found and seized at his place of residence. The attacker had time to conduct reconnaissance of the area, purchased weapons and components for the manufacture of homemade incendiary mixtures.
The investigative unit of the FSS of Russia in Stavropol Krai launched a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 (“Preparation to commit a terrorist attack") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Later it became known that the detainee in Pyatigorsk confessed to preparing a terrorist attack. “I Joined the ranks of the Islamic State and planned to commit a terrorist attack in one of the cultural centres of the city of Pyatigorsk following their instructions,” he said during interrogation. According to the person, he came to Pyatigorsk to earn money and met members of the terrorist organisation on the Internet.
