The US is closing three of eight operational bases in northeastern Syria. A total of 600 troops will be withdrawn from the country.  Two senior US officials reported this to The New York Times (NYT).

The sources added that after 60 days, American commanders will assess whether it is worthwhile to carry out additional reductions. It was recommended to leave at least 500 American soldiers in Syria.

Earlier, the Israeli portal Ynet reported that the US authorities informed Israel about the imminent withdrawal of troops from Syria. It is reported that Israel tried to prevent this from happening but was unable to convince American colleagues to change their position.
