Jordan's intelligence services thwart a military plot
Jordan's General Intelligence Directorate (GID) has announced the uncovering of “a series of dangerous plots aimed at destabilising the kingdom, inciting chaos and causing material damage.” Officials said it was a carefully controlled operation that had been in place since 2021.
Sixteen people belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood group suspected of being involved in the plot were detained, the GID said. The group allegedly worked to manufacture missiles and weapons using locally sourced materials and smuggled components.
The investigation also stated that explosives, firearms and a fully assembled missile ready for use were recovered during the manhunt. Authorities said the suspects had also developed a complex drone manufacturing project.
Jordanian media, citing official sources, reported that the suspects were trying to recruit and train people inside the country, while some members of the cell have been sent abroad for specialised training.
Jordanian government spokesman and Minister of Government Communications Mohammad al-Momani said four separate groups were involved in the plots, with each engaged in sabotage. He also stated that those arrested had received training in Lebanon.
The first cell was apprehended between May and June 2023. Authorities say they were involved in transporting and storing high explosives.
The second cell, also consisting of three individuals, was arrested in February 2025 and had already begun manufacturing weapons using both local and imported equipment.
The Government has not disclosed details of the remaining groups.
