At least 10 terrorists have been eliminated in a joint operation by security forces in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, Xinhua news agency reported, citing local police.

The police said in a statement that an intelligence gathering operation was conducted in Makarwal area of Mianwali district. In the course of the operation, a firefight ensued between militants and law enforcement personnel.

“More than 10 militants were eliminated and several others injured in the operation conducted jointly by Punjab Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD),” the statement said.

During the encounter, a local resident was injured in the leg by a militant's gunshot and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to the statement, no police or CTD personnel were injured during the operation.
