Two radicals from Aktobe and Kaskelen sentenced to 9 years in prison

A resident of Aktobe region was found guilty and sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment for propaganda of terrorism and illegal possession of firearms by the Aktobe city court.

A criminal case investigated by the National Security Committee found that he had urged people in his circle to participate in hostilities abroad on the side of terrorists and had planned to join them, too.

During the search, two automatic rifles, eight handguns, eight shotguns, three rifles, six walkie-talkies with concealed-carry headsets, three smoke bombs, one flash-bang grenade and 581 cartridges were found in his possession.

Based on the materials provided by the National Security Committee, the court of Almaty region sentenced one of the inhabitants of Kaskelen city to 9 years of imprisonment for propaganda of terrorism and recruitment of other people to participate in terrorist activities.

The defendant planned to create a terrorist group to commit terrorist attacks in Kazakhstan.

To this end, he was disseminating terrorist narratives among believers and tried to recruit them.

A total of 34 people, including two foreign nationals, have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment for terrorist and extremist offences in criminal cases investigated by the NSC since the beginning of this year.

They were found guilty of propaganda of terrorism, incitement of religious discord, recruitment, creation and participation in the activities of terrorist and extremist groups and organisations.

Investigations are still underway with regard to 23 other persons.
