US Secretary of State and Pakistani Foreign Minister discuss countering terrorism

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed cooperation in the fight against terrorism in a telephone conversation. This was disclosed in a written statement by the head of the press service of the Foreign Ministry Tammy Bruce.

According to Bruce, the foreign ministers “emphasised the importance of further cooperation on counter-terrorism.” The Secretary of State “expressed appreciation to Pakistan for the detention and transfer to the United States” of Mohammad Sharifullah, one of the field commanders of IS-Khorasan Province terrorist group (the Afghan branch of Islamic State extremist organisation). He was detained near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border with the assistance of U.S. intelligence and brought to the United States in early March. As White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said on 7 March, Sharifullah, who orchestrated a terrorist attack in Kabul in 2021, admitted that he was responsible for the forays into Russian Federation.
