"The world underestimates threats from the territory of Afghanistan": Shavkat Mirziyoyev

The President of Uzbekistan touched upon the issue of regional security and co-operation with Afghanistan in his address at the first Central Asia-European Union Summit.

Security threats are common to the two regions. They include terrorism, extremism, radicalism, cybercrime, drug trafficking and illegal migration.

“We support the proposal of European partners to launch a dialogue on counter-terrorism,” the head of state stated.

He added that it was important to expand interaction under the BOMCA and CADAP programmes.

The Uzbek president also said that the country was ready to continue political consultations on peaceful development of Afghanistan.

“To our deep regret, the world community underestimates all the challenges emanating from the territory of this country. We deem it necessary to actively involve the Afghan side in regional economic processes, including through the implementation of investment and infrastructure projects and restoration of the social sector,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

He expressed hope for understanding and support regarding the importance of establishing a constructive dialogue between the international community and the current Afghan authorities in order to meet the commitments undertaken.
