A woman accused of propaganda of terrorism (possession with the purpose of dissemination and distribution of materials with the specified content using telecommunication networks) was sentenced in Zhezkazgan, Zakon.kz reported.

According to the information disclosed by the court of Ulytau region on 3 April, the defendant corresponded in Telegram under a fake account with a close relative living in Kazakhstan in the period from 2017 to 2018 while staying in the Syrian Arab Republic. She sent him radical religious materials with terrorist narratives.

During the hearings the woman pleaded guilty and asked the court not to deprive her of freedom. The Zhezkazgan City Court found her guilty under Article 256 Part 2 of the Criminal Code and sentenced her to 7 years of imprisonment.  

Her underage children were handed over to the guardianship and custody authority for a decision on the establishment of guardianship.
