Central Asians planning a terrorist attack eliminated in Novgorod region

Employees of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) have prevented a terrorist attack at a petrochemical plant in Nizhny Novgorod Region. It was plotted by two natives of Central Asia who were eliminated during an attempt to detain them, ASIA Plus reports with reference to TASS.

It is not disclosed what country the foreign nationals eliminated belonged to.

The Public Relations Centre (PRC) of the FSB of the Russian Federation said in a statement that the eliminated migrants were “adherents of the ideology of a foreign terrorist organisation banned in the Russian Federation.”

“Acting on the instructions of their supervisor, the foreign nationals took FPV drones with improvised explosive devices from a cache to commit a sabotage at one of the enterprises of the petrochemical industry of the region. During the arrest they offered armed resistance and were eliminated by return fire,” the FSB said in a statement.

Two UAVs with foreign-made explosive warheads, a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a Makarov pistol were seized at the scene. Correspondence with a handler was found in the migrants' phones, as well as “coordinates of a cache with means of defeat and firearms,” the FSB said.

The investigation department of the FSB for the region has launched a criminal case on the fact of preparation for sabotage.
