Operational situation in Dagestan remains tense due to the continuing threats of terrorist attacks. This was reported by the republican Ministry of Internal Affairs. Foreign terrorist and extremist organizations keep working on stepping up their activities in the region.

According to the Interior Ministry, eight cells of foreign terrorist organizations were identified in 2024 in Dagestan in cooperation with the FSB of Russia. They included 52 people. Five of them were eliminated and 47 were detained. One “lone wolf” supporter of radical ideas who had joined a foreign extremist organization was also identified. Another terrorist cell was identified in 2025.

The investigation found that in most cases the criminals planned sabotage and terrorist attacks against critical and vulnerable facilities, as well as law enforcement officers.
