Jordanian authorities announce a ban on the Muslim Brotherhood movement

The Jordanian authorities have decided to ban the Islamist movement named Muslim Brotherhood in their country, confiscate its property and close all offices in the kingdom. This was reported by TASS, citing a statement by Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya.

“The Jordanian government announces the dismantling of the Muslim Brotherhood and outlaws this group after the criminal conspiracy against the state uncovered by the intelligence services,” the Interior Minister pointed out.

According to the minister, members of the group were engaged in clandestine activities aimed at destabilizing the country and undermining national unity. “Membership in the Muslim Brotherhood, spreading their narratives in the mass media and social media will be punishable by law,” Faraya warned.

On April 15, Jordan's Interior Ministry announced it had foiled a plot against state security. The kingdom's intelligence services arrested 16 people who were plotting a crime. They were accused of “producing rockets, storing explosives and firearms.” According to Jordanian authorities, members of the sabotage groups were trained abroad, including in Lebanon.

The Islamic Action Front is the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, and its supporters hold 31 of the 138 seats in the Lower House of the Jordanian parliament.
