A resident of the Chelyabinsk region sentenced to 10 years in prison for financing terrorism

A resident of the Chelyabinsk region, detained by officers of the regional department of the Federal Security Service for financing members of terrorist organizations banned in Russia, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the FSB.

“The Central District Military Court found a resident of the Chelyabinsk region born in 1982 guilty of committing a crime under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Facilitation of terrorist activity in the form of financing terrorism”). <...> The court found him guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of 10 years, with the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the rest of the sentence in a penal colony of strict regime,” - the press service reported.

A criminal case on five counts of the crime was initiated against the defendant. It was established that the man shared radical Islamic ideology, supported persons fighting abroad, and was transferring money to members of foreign terrorist organizations banned in Russia in the period from June 2022 to February 2023.
