Twelve servicemen killed in terrorist attack in the west of Niger
In the west of Niger, 12 soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack on April 25. Reuters wrote about this with reference to the statement of the military.
Two suspects in the attack have been detained. The attack occurred near the border region of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, “African Initiative” news agency reports.
The army statement did not indicate who attacked the military. However, Reuters speculates that they were fighters of the Islamic State of the Great Sahara group, an IS unit, as they were blamed for an attack on a mosque near the border region of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali last month. That attack killed at least 44 civilians.
The armed terrorists reportedly launched a surprise attack on a military unit on a mission about 10 kilometers north of the village of Sakoira.
