Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministers discuss countering terrorism

Steps to counter terrorist threats in the Middle East, Central and South Asia region were discussed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Hong Lei. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

According to the news agency, the meeting was held in the framework of the Russian-Chinese Summit on Counter-Terrorism.

“The parties touched upon relevant issues in the field of countering terrorism. There was a thorough exchange of assessments of terrorist threats at the regional and global levels. Representatives of Russia and China discussed the situation in the Middle East, Central and South Asia. Special attention was paid to the national experience in countering the spread of terrorist ideology, radicalization and various forms of extremism,” the post-talk statement reads.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties confirmed their mutual willingness and commitment “to further strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-extremist cooperation in the bilateral format and on international platforms, primarily within the UN, BRICS and SCO.”
