Boko Haram militants kill at least 22 people in northeastern Nigeria

Militants killed at least 22 people and wounded several others in two attacks in northeastern Nigeria. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the police and local residents.

The Emir of Gwoza district in Borno state Mohammed Timta said, as quoted by the African Initiative news agency, that the militants ambushed and killed ten civilians and two members of the security forces. Two people were also wounded in the attack.

In neighboring Adamawa State, locals say suspected Boko Haram militants killed ten people in an attack on the village of Kopre. The attack targeted members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje said the state law enforcement agency has deployed additional officers to the village.

In January, the Nigerian Army killed 70 Boko Haram militants in Borno State during a series of military operations from January 16 to 25.

In February, more than 5,000 former members of Boko Haram group underwent a deradicalization program and reunited with their families in Nigeria.
