In Barnaul, a foreign citizen sentenced for justifying terrorism on social media
The 2nd Eastern District Military Court has sentenced a foreign citizen for publicly justifying terrorism. According to a press release from the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Altai Territory on April 30, he was sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime prison.
It was established that the 20-year-old foreigner, while in Barnaul, used his personal account on the Telegram messenger to express support for the activities of an international organization designated as terrorist in the Russian Federation in discussion groups, and distributed photos and videos on social media. He was detained by operatives of the Russian Federal Security Service.
A criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 205.2 (Public justification of terrorism committed using the Internet), Part 2 of Article 205.5 (Participation in the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist under Russian law), Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 (Incitement, recruitment, or other involvement of a person in aiding terrorist activities) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
