Russia ready to assist Taliban in fight against terrorism

Russia is ready to assist the Taliban (recognized by the UN as a terrorist organization and subject to sanctions) in countering terrorism in Afghanistan through relevant agencies. This was announced by Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special representative for the region.

In particular, they would be countering the Afghan branch of ISIS, “IS-Khorasan Province”, that adheres to the radical ideology of “global jihad.”

“This group is a common enemy for Russia and Afghanistan, and we will provide all possible assistance to the authorities of the country through the relevant agencies,” Kabulov said. His words were reported by RIA Novosti. 

He noted that the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to temporarily lift the ban on the activities of the Taliban movement removed legal obstacles to establishing full cooperation with the authorities in Kabul. This also applies to the fight against terrorist threats.
